Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in influence within the city.
Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group enter places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Schemers parties.
